We encourage all members of our community to explore the many opportunities to learn as part of our Temple Solel family. Education does not stop with the Bar/Bat Mitzvah or when one finishes college. Jewish education can begin or resume at any time!
Along with prayer, and acts of Tikkun Olam, life-long learning is fundamental to Jewish life. Participating in Jewish learning facilitates the development of lasting friendships and a strong sense of belonging to a vibrant spiritual community. By examining issues from a Jewish perspective, participants can enhance their own understanding of human behavior, values, and ethics that impact every aspect of personal and professional life.
We host several weekly Adult Education offerings, along with a plethora of special offerings and events. Some classes and programs have limited enrollment, we recommend that attendees register early! See more about our upcoming events on the Temple Solel Calendar, and review our weekly opportunities below.

“Don’t Say Gay” Legislation and The Temple Solel B’nei Mitzvah Program
It is a beautiful and time-honored tradition to study the weekly Torah portion on Shabbat with other congregants, discussing the moral and spiritual lessons of the week’s parsha. This group is a treasured community and we open our arms wide to everyone who joins us. No Hebrew or prior Torah study experience is necessary to fully participate and find meaning.
This group is led by clergy, Jewish educators, Temple members, and special guests.
Lessons of the Lagoon brings together the physical and spiritual each month. The group meets at the Cardiff-by-the-Sea lagoon for a leisurely three mile walk that starts with an opening meditation or context or framework. The group strolls while savoring the surroundings and capitalizing on the gorgeous nature. The experiences closes with a grounding closing that ties it all together, which may be a prayer or a re-visiting of the opening meditation with group contributions/reflections.
This experience is quintessentially Cardiff AND Temple Solel!
Would you like to explore the Friday night prayers? Would you like to learn how to translate Hebrew words with a caring group of Solel members?
Join Ellen Fox on select Tuesdays from 9:00-10:00AM on Zoom. Ellen introduces each prayer with teachings, stories, and short videos. Then the class translates the prayer by looking at each word for root words and/or words we already know. It is gratifying to see how the words come together to create a meaningful prayer.
Come once in a while or every class!
Using the lunar cycle of the Hebrew calendar, Rosh Hodesh, which means “head of the month”, is a monthly gathering of ritual, learning, story-telling, and spiritual experience.
